The Sound of Music (Dźwięki muzyki), produced by Gliwicki Teatr Muzyczny, was directed by the Polish-French stage director and vocalist Maria Sartova, known for large-scale musical theatre productions combining cinematic rhythm with precise musical dramaturgy. Her staging emphasized the fluidity of transitions between intimate domestic scenes and monumental ensemble sequences.
The scenography and lighting design were created by French scenographer Yves Collet, whose visual concept introduced a modern theatrical language into the classic musical structure. The set operated through layered spatial compositions and translucent surfaces that allowed light and projected imagery to become an active part of the scenographic architecture.
The multimedia component consisted of large-scale video projections displayed on theatrical scrim (tulle), creating semi-transparent spatial images integrated with live performance. The moving image's projections, light, and stage space merged into a cinematic visual environment. The translucent material allowed the projections to appear suspended within the stage architecture, producing a shifting interplay between visibility, depth, and physical presence.
The video design expanded the emotional and atmospheric dimension of the production, supporting the transformation of the stage from intimate interiors into monumental symbolic spaces characteristic of the musical’s visual narrative.
