Fear and misery 2022 (Strach i nędza 2022) was a performance developed through actor improvisations, inspired by Federico Fellini’s 8½, exploring themes of artistic crisis, institutional exhaustion, and the relationship between professional theatre and community-based creation. The piece was built through a collective devising process, where rehearsal, performance, and reflection overlapped.
The scenography by Małgorzata Szydłowska created a environment in which the visible stage action was combined with a parallel layer of events taking place behind the set. These off-stage actions were not directly visible to the audience and could only be accessed through live camera feeds and large-scale projections on the scenographic surfaces. This created a dual structure of perception, where on-stage and off-stage realities existed at the same time within one dramaturgical system.
My multimedia work defined this mediated layer, combining live video, recorded material, and projection into a single visual environment. The camera and projection system did not serve as documentation, but as an extension of the stage, shaping a space where image and performance worked together as one integrated structure.
